Ian Calhoun
Bass Trombone
Ian Calhoun is a freelance low brass musician and music educator in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. A founding member of the Dallas Brass Band, Ian also has experience performing in wind bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, party bands, and chamber groups across the Metroplex. He also marched baritone with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps for two seasons. Ian received his bachelor’s degree in music performance at the University of North Texas, where he performed in dozens of small and large ensembles, including the North Texas Wind Symphony, the U-Tubes Jazz Trombone Ensemble, and the One O'Clock Lab Band. As a member of the One O'Clock Lab Band, he participated in the inaugural Jack Rudin Jazz Championship and recorded four studio albums: Lab 2019, Lab 2020, Lab 2021 (featured as soloist), and Lab 2022. As a member of the U-Tubes Jazz Trombone Ensemble, Ian won the International Trombone Association Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition in 2021 and recorded their latest studio album, The Plot Thickens. In 2023, as a member of the North Texas Wind Symphony, he performed at the annual Texas Music Educators Association Convention featuring the Barcelona Clarinet Players and Dame Evelyn Glennie. Ian currently resides in Denton, Texas, and spends his free time reading, solving puzzles, and honing his juggling skills.
