Matthew McGarvey

B-flat Tuba

Matthew McGarvey is a versatile musician and educator based in Dallas, Texas. Currently serving as a BBb bass player for the Dallas Brass Band, Matthew brings a wealth of experience to his performances. 
 

Originally from Florida, Matthew honed his skills while studying tuba performance at the University of South Florida, where he earned his master's degree. During his studies both in his master’s and undergrad at University of Central Florida, he was a prominent member of the Brass Band of Central Florida.
 

Matthew's musical journey has taken him through various avenues, including performances at Orlando theme parks, engagements with local symphony orchestras, and a diverse range of gigs spanning from jazz to polka. He also boasts an impressive marching background, having marched with Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps and later transitioning to teaching roles with DCI organizations, including The Cavaliers and Spirit of Atlanta.
 

In addition to his performance career, Matthew is dedicated to music education. He offers private lessons in the DFW area and shares his expertise in choreography and movement fundamentals with local high school marching programs.
 

Outside of music, Matthew indulges in his passion for strength sports, competing as a semi-professional strongman and powerlifting.
