Nathaniel Geiger

Principal Tenor Trombone, President

Nathaniel Geiger is an active low brass musician and music educator currently based in Dallas-Fort Worth. Nathaniel was born and raised in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where he began playing trombone at the age of ten. He holds degrees from Illinois State University (Bachelors in Music
Education, Summa Cum Laude), and Michigan State University (Masters in Music Performance.)

Nathaniel currently serves as a trombone and bass trombone instructor for McKinney ISD, and previously served as a low brass instructor for Allen ISD and Richardson ISD. Nathaniel’s students consistently advance to TMEA All-Region, Area, and All-State concert and jazz ensembles, and receive superior ratings and awards at solo and ensemble contests. They are recognized for awards within their school music programs, and have performed in ensembles invited to the TMEA Convention, The UIL State
Marching Contest, and The Midwest Clinic. His students have also been accepted into various competitions and programs including the Malcolm Helm Concerto Competition, the McKinney ISD Middle School Concerto Competition, the Interlochen Fine Arts Camps, and ensembles including the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra. His students have gone on to music degrees or perform in ensembles at the New England Conservatory of Music, The University Of North
Texas, and Texas Tech University.

While living in Dallas, Nathaniel has performed with the Allen Philharmonic, The Dallas Millennial Choir And Orchestra, Rockwall Summer Musicals, The Sherman Community Theatre, and The
Frisco Jazz Band. Nathaniel has also performed with The Illinois Symphony, The Lansing Symphony, The Rochester Symphony, The Michigan Philharmonic, and The Midland Symphony. He has also served as principal trombone of The Urbana Pops Orchestra, and has won positions at the Round Top Festival Institute and The Sewanee Summer Music Festival. Nathaniel was the winner of the Low Brass Solo Competition at the North American Brass Band Championships in 2016, was awarded 3rd Place in the Trombone Technical Competition in 2023, and was a finalist for concerto competitions at Illinois State and Michigan State. Nathaniel has recorded the music of David Maslanka, John Mackey, Stephen Bryant, and other prominent wind band composers with both Illinois State and Michigan State, performing on the CD "Monuments’’, winner of the 2015 “American Prize” for College Wind Ensemble Recordings. He has also recorded for film and documentary soundtracks for “Blue Police Box Music”, a multimedia composition studio based in Los Angeles. In 2014, Nathaniel gave the inaugural recital of the Urbana Pops Orchestra’s now annual “Principal Recital Series.”

Nathaniel has also performed extensively with British style brass bands. Nathaniel is currently the Principal Trombonist and President of The Dallas Brass Band, who were named the 2022 1st Section Champions at the North American Brass Band Championships. He has also performed, soloed, and recorded with The Five Lakes Silver Band and The Capital City Brass Band. In 2017, Nathaniel was invited on an international contest tour of England and Scotland with the current reigning North American Champion Fountain City Brass Band, where the group placed 2nd at “Brass In Concert”, a contest featuring top bands from five countries, and 3rd at “The Scottish Open.”
